Millions of dollars have been invested in new schools and in new technology. Class sizes are small – our average student/teacher ratio is just 16 to 1 and our average graduating class size is 200. Advanced placement and gifted programs and special education services are offered by most local school districts too.

Area colleges often work together to custom design the training programs needed by our employers.  A variety of grant programs are available to help companies lessen their training expenses.

• There are more than 83,000 students enrolled in grades K – 12 throughout the immediate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area and close to 275,000 students in the 20 Pennsylvania counties covered by Mericle’s brokerage division.

• High school graduation rates in Northeast PA average 91% compared to the state average of 86.4%.  In fact, 22 out of 24 public high schools in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties have graduation rates higher than the state average.
• Approximately 80% of local high school graduates enroll in college vs. the 77.1% state average.
• Between 1990 and 2000 the number of adults 25 and over in Northeast PA possessing a college degree increased by 34%.
• There are 16 area higher education institutions in Northeast PA with approximately 47,000 enrolled students. 
• 77.8% of all students enrolled at these 16 schools are PA residents.
