Mericle goes green!

Mericle started a Green Building Program several years ago with a commitment to provide lower operating costs to tenants through the implementation of eco-friendly, energy-saving measures. By constructing tight building envelopes, installing energy-efficient T-bay lighting and HVAC systems, improving ventilation and indoor air quality, and by using native and adaptive landscaping and recycled/regional materials, we are making a concerted effort to “go green.”

We also pioneered the development of LEED® certified industrial buildings in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

LEED® stands for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” and is a national industry measurement tool created by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) to define the industry’s most environmentally conscious projects.

LEED® provides third-party verification that a building was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across metrics such as energy savings, water efficiency, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

Two of our in-house design professionals have earned USGBC LEED® professional accreditation. In 2009, we secured LEED® Silver Certification for Commercial Interiors for our work at the 615,600 square foot industrial fulfillment center we developed for Amazon.com in Humboldt Industrial Park near Hazleton. This marked the first time a developer gained LEED® status for an industrial building in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

We also obtained LEED® for New Construction for the 744,080 square foot industrial facility we developed for Kimberly Clark and LEED® Silver Certification for Commercial Interiors for the 272,800 square foot corporate headquarters and distribution center we developed for Benco Dental. Both facilities are located in the Mericle-built CenterPoint Commerce & Trade Park East in Jenkins Township, PA.

Mericle began constructing CenterPoint in 2006 and has since developed more than six million square feet of industrial, flex, and office space there. In 2009, a cooperative effort to reclaim mine scarred lands in what is now CenterPoint received the Office of Surface Mining’s (OSM) 2009 National Award for Abandoned Mine Reclamation. The award is the top honor handed out annually by OSM.
